4.0 out of 5 stars A NEW WORLD ORDER, September 24, 2013
This review is from: Daimones (Daimones Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)

Dan Amenta and his family wake up one morning, just like every other that had come before it. To their surprise, the world as they knew it was no longer. Venturing out to find out the extent of the catastrophic event that has taken place, they realize that no one else had made it through the night alive but them. With no knowledge of any other survivors, their entire way of life changes as they acclimate themselves to what he later understands is a world order that humans were not aware of. With no indication of what took place, who caused it and why, Dan must take the helm and find a way for he and his family to survive under the circumstances. In the midst of this transition, Dan stumbles upon supernatural beings, who he eventually remembers encountering in his youth. Although afraid and unsure of their origin, he cannot contain his curiosity and seeks to uncover the purpose of these mysterious creatures. Learning how their presence and authority influences the earth changes his life forever.

Diamones by Massimo Marino was my first sci-fi read and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. It was nothing like what I expected from this genre. The events that took place in this title were not too animated or supernatural that I was turned off. I could actually picture everything as I read because of the detailed descriptions. For instance, I could see the trauma to the area around them as they searched for signs of life. There was one portion that seemed a little too "scientific" with details of what had taken place on various planets in the past, but other than that, I was able to remain engrossed in the storyline. What I loved about this book is that it addressed so many issues related to the human existence - fear, love, loyalty, survival, various dynamics of relationships, isolation, the need for security and so many others. I would definitely suggest this title for sci-fi lovers and those who want to give this genre a try.
